Welcome back to Sun, Soil and Silicon, I am Achieng Otieno. Today's technology is not glamorous. It is a cold room, a box with solar panels on top, sitting at the edge of Kibuye market in Kisumu. But it does something remarkable. About a third of the tomatoes sold at markets like this one used to rot before anyone bought them. Now the traders rent shelf space inside the box, by the crate, by the day, and the losses are tiny. I spent a morning with Mama Akinyi, who has sold tomatoes there for twenty-two years, then sat with the operator to ask the hard questions about batteries, maintenance and who is really paying. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Let's open the cold room door.
