Welcome back to The Planning Committee Meets, I am Rosalind Achebe. This episode is about a cycle lane, or more precisely, about the 3,000 people who wrote in about it. A council in a mid-sized city proposed a protected lane along a shopping street, opened a consultation, and received more replies than it had ever had for anything, plus two petitions pointing in opposite directions. We are going to look at what a consultation is actually for, which is not the same as a vote, how the questions were written, and what a transport officer does with 3,000 replies on a Monday morning. A residents' group will tell us what they felt was heard. And we will see the revised scheme, which changed in three places. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.
