About the show

Balcony and Bucket is a weekly gardening show for people with no garden. Ines Cabrera grows tomatoes, chillies, herbs and a stubborn lemon tree on a fourth-floor balcony in Valencia, and each 30 minute episode follows what is happening in her containers right now: what to sow this week, what went wrong last week, and what she is harvesting for dinner. Solo episodes alternate with phone-in conversations with listeners who garden on windowsills in Manchester, rooftops in Cairo and fire escapes in New York. Ines is a trained horticulturist but she talks like a neighbour, and she is honest about slug losses and overwatered basil. The show suits beginners who have killed a few plants already and want to understand why, and anyone who wants ten square feet of green to come home to. Seasonal planting calendars are described for both hemispheres.
