Uncle Gaston and the Travelling Circus of 1962

Marguerite's own great-uncle Gaston left a farm in Trois-Rivieres at 17 to feed elephants for a touring circus. His daughter Lise tells what he really did, and what he made up.

About the show

Every family has one story that gets told at every wedding, and Marguerite Tremblay wants to hear yours. Each week she sits down with a listener, a grandparent, a cousin or a neighbour and retells one true family story for an all-ages audience: the uncle who really did run away with a circus, the grandmother who delivered the mail by snowmobile, the wedding cake that went through a car wash. Episodes are 25 to 35 minutes long and come out every Sunday, mixing Marguerite's narration with the storyteller's own voice and a few sound effects from her kitchen. It is made for families to play in the car or over dinner, with nothing a seven year old cannot hear and plenty that a seventy year old will recognise. The show records in English and French, with the French stories told in English and the teller's own words kept in.
