Innocent Until Heard looks at historical wrongful convictions from the inside of the system that produced them. Keziah Thornbury worked as a criminal defence solicitor in Sydney for fourteen years and later with an innocence project, and she is interested less in villains than in the ordinary mechanisms, a confident eyewitness, a flawed forensic test, an interview that ran too long, that put the wrong person in prison. Each fortnightly episode of around 40 minutes takes one well documented case, from the Guildford Four to Lindy Chamberlain, and follows it from arrest through appeal, with interviews with lawyers, journalists and forensic scientists who were there. It is for listeners who want to understand the law as a human process and who believe that getting it right matters more than getting a conviction. Victims and the wrongly accused are both treated with care.
