Three minutes, one story

The first episode works with Daniela, a pharmacist from Monterrey whose sister is getting married in ten days. Her draft toast runs eleven minutes and starts with an apology. Jorge records her first attempt, coaches her through it, and records the second.

  • Why every toast is one story, not a list of memories
  • Cutting the apology, the inside jokes and the second anecdote
  • Where to breathe so your voice does not climb
  • What to do with the glass, and when to lift it

Solo segment: the three-second pause, and why it feels like thirty. Daniela's final toast is on the show page with her permission.

Hola, welcome to Say It Like You Mean It. I am Jorge Belmonte Arriaga. I was an actor, and now I coach people who have to stand up and speak when they would rather be anywhere else. Every week we take one real speech from one real listener with one real deadline, and we fix it together. Today, a wedding toast. Daniela is a pharmacist from Monterrey, her sister marries in ten days, and her draft is eleven minutes long and opens with the words I am not good at this. We are going to record her as she is, work on it, and record her again. You will hear both. And in between, a short lesson on the three-second pause, which feels like thirty seconds and is the most useful thing I can teach you. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.
