About the show

Slack Tide is a fortnightly fishing show recorded on wharves, riverbanks and the occasional boat around the Bay of Plenty. Rawiri Henare has fished since he was five and still goes home empty-handed more often than not, which is the spirit of the show. Each 40 minute episode mixes a trip report with a practical theme: reading tides, surfcasting for beginners, cheap gear that works, fishing with kids, filleting without wasting half the fish, and the customary rules around taking only what you need. Guests include a retired commercial fisherman, a fly fisher from the central plateau and a marine biologist who explains what is happening under the water. The show is for weekend anglers, people who inherited a rod and never used it, and anyone who likes the sound of water in the background. No tournament talk, no sponsor gear, just patient conversation and the odd fish.
