The Second Draft is a writing show for people who do not call themselves writers but write all day: emails, reports, proposals, complaints, the occasional speech. Farida Haque edited copy at a Dhaka English daily for seven years and then spent six more teaching business writing to engineers and civil servants, and she has a clear view of what goes wrong on the page. Each fortnightly episode runs about 30 minutes and takes one problem, the email nobody answers, the paragraph that says nothing, the report that buries its only point on page nine, and fixes it live. Listeners send real sentences, with permission and names removed, and Farida rewrites them aloud, explaining each choice. There are occasional guests, a speechwriter, a lawyer, a novelist who also writes grant applications, but mostly it is Farida, a red pen and your sentence.
