About the show

Thirty Years from Thursday is a weekly speculative fiction anthology written and narrated by Karim Haddad from Beirut. Each episode is a complete story, 25 to 35 minutes, set a few decades from now in a world that is recognisable, slightly tilted and never explained with a lecture: a translator whose earpiece starts correcting her feelings, a Beirut taxi driver who leases his memories of the old coast road, a village that votes on the weather, a bakery that is the last place in the city without a camera. The stories ask what ordinary people do when the rules shift under them, and they are often funny. Karim performs each one with a small Lebanese cast, recorded in Arabic and English and voiced in English, with sound from the streets of Beirut. No continuing plot, so start anywhere. It is for listeners who like big questions about technology with warmer answers and more lunch.
