About the show

Why Is The Sky is a weekly science show for curious children aged six to eleven and the adults who have run out of answers. Host Dana Khalil is a physics teacher in Amman who records each 20-minute episode around one question sent in by a real child: why is the sky blue, where does the rain go, why does my voice sound different on a recording, do fish sleep, what is inside a volcano. Dana answers in plain language, with a simple experiment the family can do at the kitchen table, and she is honest when scientists do not fully know. Most episodes include a short call with the child who asked, and occasionally a scientist joins to explain their own job. The show is designed for the car, the bath and the long Friday afternoon. Parents get the science right along with their kids, and children learn that asking why is the most important thing a person can do.
