The tennis player's problem

Tennis players arrive at padel with a strong forehand and three habits that hold them back: a long swing, a fear of the glass, and a refusal to lob. Noor works through each one with a drill, then speaks with Dubai coach Lina Haddad, whose Tuesday women's league grew from eight friends to two hundred players and became the social centre of a neighbourhood.

  • Shortening the swing and why power loses points
  • Letting the ball come off the glass
  • The lob as attack, not retreat
  • Lina Haddad on building a 200-player league
  • Choosing a first racket without spending too much

Share your court city on the Witspeak channel and Noor will find a guest from it.

Welcome back to Glass Court Doha, I am Noor Al Kuwari. This week is for every tennis player who picked up a padel racket, won for two months, and then stopped improving. I know, because I coach a lot of you. You arrive with a big forehand and three habits that are quietly killing your game. A long swing, a fear of the glass behind you, and a belief that the lob is for cowards. We will fix all three, with drills you can do on your next booking. Then I go to Dubai, where coach Lina Haddad started a Tuesday night women's league with eight friends and now has two hundred players and a sponsorship problem, the good kind. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Short swing, soft hands.

Why Beginners Lose at the Net

Noor explains the single most common mistake in club padel, rushing the net without a lob to earn it, and gives a three-session fix, plus a club owner in Riyadh on how fast the courts filled.
