Earn the net, then hold it

Every beginner in padel sprints to the net and gets lobbed. Noor explains why the net is a position you earn with a deep lob, and lays out a three-session plan for pairs who keep losing the same way. Then Abdullah Al Rashid, who opened twelve courts in Riyadh in eighteen months, talks about the demand he never expected.

  • The lob as the key to the court
  • Where to stand when your partner is lobbed
  • Three sessions to fix the pattern
  • Abdullah on twelve courts, eighteen months and a waiting list
  • Playing at 10 pm in August, how to survive it

Next week, the bandeja explained slowly, with a drill you can do alone.

Transcript
Marhaba and welcome to Glass Court Doha. I am Noor Al Kuwari, I played squash for Qatar for nine years, and now I spend my evenings on a padel court watching people make the same mistake, which is what today is about. If you are new to padel, you run to the net, because that is where the points are. And then you get lobbed, and lobbed, and lobbed. The net is not a place you run to, it is a position you earn. I will explain how, and give you three sessions to fix it with your partner. Then I talk to Abdullah Al Rashid, who opened twelve courts in Riyadh in eighteen months and still has a waiting list. We also cover how to play at ten at night in August. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Rackets ready.
