About the show

Every night at eight, Dilhani lights a lantern, sits under the mango tree in her garden in Kandy, and tells one folk tale from somewhere on the map. One week it is a Sri Lankan story about a clever jester, the next a Norwegian troll who could not count, then a Moroccan tale about a stubborn donkey and a very patient girl. The show is for children aged four to nine and the grown-ups who are tucking them in. Each episode is a single narrated story, 18 to 25 minutes long, told slowly with soft garden sounds and a gentle ending so nobody is wide awake afterwards. New stories arrive every Tuesday and Friday. Dilhani always says where the tale comes from and what people there might have learned from it, so a bedtime story also becomes a tiny trip somewhere new.
