Your protein questions, answered

This is the first listener Q and A of the series, and nearly every voice note was about protein. Mariam works through the numbers, the units that cause confusion, and the foods that get you there without a tub of powder.

  • Grams per kilo explained for a real 70 kilo person
  • Why women over 50 may need more than the standard guidance
  • Lentils, eggs, yoghurt and chicken: a day of meals that hits the target
  • Whether the post-workout shake window is real
  • A voice note from Ahmed, who was eating 300 grams a day

Send Mariam your questions as a voice note on Witspeak for the next Q and A.

Transcript
Welcome back to Plate, Not Protocol with me, Mariam El-Sayed. This is our first question and answer episode, and I asked you to send me whatever was confusing you. I expected variety. Instead I got protein, protein, protein. How much do I need, is it different for women, can vegetarians get enough, do I need a shake. So that is what we are doing today. I am going to give you a number you can actually use, I am going to tell you why that number is a range and not a rule, and I am going to walk you through a normal day of Egyptian food that hits it without a single scoop of powder. And we will hear from Ahmed, who was eating more protein than a professional rugby player. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.

Intermittent fasting, honestly

Mariam looks at what the trials on time-restricted eating actually found, who it helps, who it harms, and why most people lose weight on it for a reason that has nothing to do with the clock.
