A Lagos producer sits with Tobi to build a log drum pattern from scratch, and Tobi traces the bounce back through amapiano, fuji and highlife to show its roots.

About the show

Lagos Tempo is a weekly show about Afrobeats as a music, a business and a culture. Oluwatobi Adeyinka, a former A and R who signed artists in Lagos for nearly a decade, hosts a mix of interviews and solo episodes: one week a producer breaks down a log drum pattern, the next a tour manager explains how a Lagos artist fills an arena in London, and the week after Tobi traces a sound back through highlife, fuji and juju to show where it came from. It is for fans who want more than a playlist, for musicians in Accra, Nairobi and Johannesburg who want to understand the Lagos engine, and for anyone in the music industry who keeps hearing the word Afrobeats and wants the real story. Episodes run 35 to 45 minutes, come out every Friday, and always close with three new tracks worth your time.
