From Surulere to a London arena

A tour manager who has taken three Lagos artists to arena stages walks Tobi through what it actually takes: visas, a band that rehearses in two countries, the promoter's maths and the audience that arrives early.

  • Visa paperwork and the six months before any show
  • Rehearsing a band split between Lagos and London
  • What a promoter needs to see before booking an arena
  • Why diaspora crowds arrive early and what that changes
  • Three new tracks worth your time this week

Tour dates and the three track picks are in the notes.

Transcript
This is Lagos Tempo, I am Oluwatobi Adeyinka. Last month an artist from Surulere sold out an arena in London, and the coverage made it sound like magic. It was not magic, it was six months of paperwork and a band that rehearsed in two countries at once. My guest today is the tour manager who made it happen, and she is going to walk us through every step, from the visa appointment to the promoter's spreadsheet to the moment the lights went down. We will talk about why the diaspora crowd arrives two hours early and how that changes the whole show. If you are an artist anywhere in Africa dreaming about that stage, this is the practical version. Three new tracks at the end. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.
