Chapter Two

The ship arrives and asks to dock. Its manifest is empty: no cargo, no crew, no origin. Ana calls a crew meeting for the first time in months and the argument over the airlock splits the station in two. Meanwhile engineer Rewi Tane, reading the ship's power signature, recognises a reactor design that was supposed to have been scrapped.

  • The docking request and the empty manifest
  • The crew meeting and the vote Ana did not want to hold
  • Rewi's discovery in the power signature
  • A voice on the ship's channel, finally
  • Closing log: the airlock cycles

Continues directly from Chapter One. Chapter Three in a fortnight.

Transcript
Kia ora, this is Last Light on Kepler Dock and I am Tamsin Ngata. This is chapter two. If you have not heard chapter one, please go back, because this story only makes sense in order. When we left Kepler Dock, station chief Ana Pereira had seen a ship on the long-range sensor and decided not to tell her crew. Tonight the ship arrives and asks to dock. Its manifest lists nothing: no cargo, no crew, no port of origin. Ana has to call the first crew meeting in months, and the vote about the airlock does not go the way she hoped. And engineer Rewi Tane, reading the ship's power signature, sees a reactor that was supposed to have been scrapped years ago. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Chapter two.
