Starting the Essay You Have Been Avoiding

Every student has one piece of work they keep moving to tomorrow. Adaeze had a 3,000 word pharmacology essay that sat untouched for nine days. Tunde had a lab report. This episode is a step by step account of how they finally started, with the methods that worked and the ones that did not.

  • Writing the worst possible first paragraph on purpose
  • The 25 minute rule and why the timer matters more than the length
  • Reading only what you need for the next paragraph
  • Sending a draft to a friend before you think it is ready

Listeners are invited to send in their own avoided assignments for a future episode.

Transcript
Hi, Adaeze here, and this is Library at Eleven with Tunde beside me. Quick question. What is the one assignment you have been moving to tomorrow? Mine was a 3,000 word pharmacology essay that I did not open for nine days. Tunde's was a lab report he described as a personal enemy. Today we are going to tell you how we actually started, not how we wish we had started. We will talk about writing the worst first paragraph on purpose, a 25 minute rule where the timer matters more than the words, and how to read only what you need for the next paragraph instead of the whole reading list. If you have an assignment like that, open it while you listen. Just open it. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.
