The Week After You Fail

Both hosts have failed a course at university and both still remember the exact mark. In this first episode they talk about the week after the result: the phone call home, the friends who did not know what to say, and the two very different ways they got back to studying.

  • Telling your parents in a way that leaves room for a plan
  • Why Tunde took a full week off and Adaeze did not
  • Reading the examiner's comments without spiralling
  • Finding one person who passed and asking them exactly how

The episode ends with a resit timetable template the hosts have shared with their study group.

Transcript
Hello and welcome to Library at Eleven. I am Adaeze Nwachukwu, final-year pharmacy student at Unilag, and sitting next to me is Tunde Bakare, who is repeating a year of engineering at Ibadan and will tell you so himself. We started this show because both of us have failed a course, both of us remember the exact mark, and nobody talked to us honestly about the week after. So that is where we begin. We will go through the phone call home, the friends who went quiet, the examiner's comments I could not read for three days, and the two very different ways we got back to the desk. At the end there is a resit timetable we use in our study group. Put the kettle on, close the other tabs. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts.

Starting the Essay You Have Been Avoiding

A practical episode on the essay that has sat untouched for nine days: the ugly first paragraph method, a 25 minute rule, and what to do when the reading feels endless.
