Tonight in ten minutes

Two minutes of belly breathing, then a story about Bulan, a young carabao in a Pampanga rice field, who yawns so wide that the moon starts yawning back. Every time Bulan breathes out, something in the field settles down.

  • Breathing: in through the nose for four, out through the mouth for six
  • Story: Bulan the carabao, the yawning moon, the frogs who go quiet one by one
  • Tagalog word of the night: tulog, which means sleep
  • Count down from ten, with a long pause after each number
  • Running time 11 minutes

Tomorrow night: a jeepney that parks itself for the night. Sleep well.

Transcript
Hi there, sleepy one. This is Teresa, and this is Ten Minutes to Sleepy. You do not have to do anything now except lie down and listen. Let your head get heavy on the pillow. Good. Tonight our story is about a carabao, which is a big, gentle water buffalo with wide horns and soft eyes, and his name is Bulan. Bulan lives in a rice field, and tonight Bulan cannot stop yawning. Every time he yawns, the moon above the field yawns too. But before we go to the rice field, let us breathe together. In through your nose, one, two, three, four. And out through your mouth, slow, one, two, three, four, five, six. Lovely. Once more. In. And out. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Let us go and find Bulan.
