Tonight in ten minutes

Breathing first, then a city story for children who like vehicles. Kuya Dong is a jeepney painted with roosters and stars. All day he has carried people, honked at tricycles and played loud music. Now the last passenger has gone home, and it is time to park.

  • Breathing: hands on the tummy, feel it rise like a balloon
  • Story: each of Kuya Dong's lights goes out one by one, then the engine hums lower
  • Tagalog phrase of the night: magandang gabi, which means good night
  • Count down from ten, slower than last night
  • Running time 10 minutes

Tomorrow night we visit a lighthouse that likes to blink slowly.

Transcript
Hello again, little one. It is Teresa, and this is Ten Minutes to Sleepy. Are you lying down? Put your hands on your tummy. When you breathe in, feel it go up like a balloon. When you breathe out, feel it go down. In. And out. Beautiful. Tonight we are in the city, in Manila, where the streets are finally quiet. There is a jeepney called Kuya Dong, painted with roosters and stars, and he has been driving all day long, honking and singing and picking people up. Now the last passenger has gone home, and Kuya Dong is rolling very slowly into his parking spot. One by one his lights are going to go out. Let us watch them together, nice and slow. You are listening on Witspeak Podcasts. Breathe in. And here comes Kuya Dong.
